Hi all,
I wasn't sure how many of you remember this gentleman. He was always in attendance in the old days at our reenactments at Westfield. He reenacted as a period minister and was known throughout the reenacting community both in Canada and the US. His loss will be felt by many. Here are the details as sent to me.
Thanks, Janet --------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Friends, I regret to inform you that after a valiant effort, Ben succumbed to his illness and passed away today at 6:20. It seemed rather fitting that he went on Memorial Day. He went peacefully and quietly in his sleep surrounded by his family.
Calling hours will be from 2-4 and 6-8 on Thursday and Friday, the 28th and 29th at the Amigone Zurbrick funeral home on 5615 Broadway St, Lancaster 14086. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery at 10:00 on Saturday the 30th(directions will be available at the funeral parlor. A small memorial service will be held following at 12:00 at the Griffins Mills Presbyterian Church on Mill Rd in West Falls, followed by refreshments.
Thank you all for your many thoughts and prayers. They have kept me going over the many long weeks of Ben's illness. Cathy

I was sorry to hear of Ben's passing. I met and talked to him many times at events like Rockton, Clarence and Genesee Village. Ben had researched the regiments from the Buffalo area and had written articles about them for various Civil War publications. He was also interested in the religion of the time and portrayed a preacher or priest with different regiments at events. I think he often did the commentary for the Battle of the Gazebo at Genesee.
